For the in-class ESL program, all teachers will create correction sheets for morning and afternoon classes. Since each class has a speaking portion attached to it, teachers will write down mistakes the students make while speaking. During the last 10 minutes of class, the teacher will go over and correct the mistakes they have recorded. This is done for a few reasons. First, it allows students to become comfortable with making mistakes while speaking. Second, it allows the students to see individualized mistakes they are making with their speaking. Finally, it demonstrates to students how to fix their mistakes in speech.
Students will be assigned to a level according to their English proficiency. In order to determine appropriate levels for students, they will take an entrance exam upon acceptance to Glenn College. Otherwise, students may show proof of proficiency through either an IELTS, TOEFL, or TOEIC score. These scores will be used to determine which level is most suitable.
Graduation
For successful completion of this program, students must achieve an overall minimum mark of 60% in all of the courses they take. Their course marks will be an accumulation of quizzes, oral presentations, attendance and participation.
In order for students to advance to the next course level, they must receive a score of 80% with a requirement of 70% attendance.
Accreditation
Upon completion of any number of weeks in this program, students will receive a program certificate.
